Colonel Mark Saragosa serves as the Commander, 953d Reserve Support Squadron supporting the elite Joint Enabling Capabilities Command (JECC) located at Norfolk Naval Air Station, Virginia and the Joint Staff Hampton Roads in Suffolk, Virginia.
Colonel Saragosa earned his Air Force commission in 1994 as a graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps from the University of California at Berkeley. Colonel Saragosa served as the Deputy Commander for the 433rd Mission Support Group within the “Alamo Wing”, as well as commanded 3 Air Force Squadrons. He has held a multitude of positions at base, Major Command, and Wing levels. He has deployed to countless locations to include the 16th Air Expeditionary Wing at Aviano Air Base in support of former Yugoslavia operations, nation building projects in support of NEW HORIZONS in the Caribbean and South America supporting 820th RED HORSE projects in the Western Hemisphere, as well as deployed to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar in 2003 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In 2005 Colonel Saragosa was appointed to the J4/J5 division of the Standing Joint Force Headquarters, PACOM working directly for Admiral Roughead as a JTF-519 planner. He deployed to locations in support of COBRA GOLD and TALISMAN SABRE promoting joint strategic planning between the U.S. and its allies. Colonel Saragosa also deployed to Sather Air Base, Baghdad, Iraq to become the 447th Expeditionary Logistic Readiness Squadron Commander in support of Operation NEW DAWN in 2011. During his first command of the 56th Aerial Port Squadron his unit received the prestigious 2010 National Defense Transportation Association Award for Best Aerial Port Squadron in the entire United States Air Force.
